Why use citric acid or hydrochloric acid?

When either citric acid or hydrochloric acid are used as the activator, they provide a fixed amount of acid with each use, therefore, results are consistent. Lemon juice, lime juice and vinegar vary in their acidic content, which may render inconsistent results.

Which is better, citric acid or hydrochloric acid? Citric acid and hydrochloric acid are two different acids that are used as activators. They both do the same thing equally well. One is not better than the other, unless one tolerates one better than the other. It is a matter of preference and compatibility.

Please note: In our experience, the use of hydrochloric acid when activating few drops tends to reach a yellow color in 20 - 30 seconds compared to an amber color when activating a larger amount of drops. This does not mean that more drops should be used.
